In the last few months, I’ve been focusing on the power of words. I’m not sure if its because I need to change my thought process or because the positivity message is all around us. In every self-help book I’ve picked up, words are a huge part of the self-love process. Gratitude is a recommended daily practice to change your perspective; belief in yourself is the key to your success.
I believe in the power of our words. I especially believe in the power of a grateful heart. However, I’ve been missing a key ingredient, which is the source of our strength and power. Most self-help books encourage us to love ourselves and to chase after our dreams. It’s through ourselves, our focus, determination, and efforts that we find happiness. Wrong!
In 2020 I’ve been journaling, and each day I write who I am in 10 years. The practice is to encourage belief in myself and help me stay focused on the end goal of following my dreams. For example, a few of my daily notes include “I am healthy and happy with my body,” “I am a successful business owner,” and “I am debt-free”. While I believe there is power in these words, they are self-centered and lack the real source of life-changing power.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13
The life-changing ingredient we are all searching to find, the source of our strength…is through Christ and Christ alone. Positive words do change our thought process and perspective, but strength through Christ transforms our lives.

Strength through Christ
= Fulfilled Life
When we combine positive words, faith, and Christ’s strength, we have the most powerful ingredients to live the fulfilled life Christ planned for us. That doesn’t mean we can’t follow dreams or have personal goals. I highly recommend them! Chase your dreams, but keep God at the center of your life. When life throws a curveball our way, we can lean into His strength with confidence that He is in control. He might lead us toward our dreams, or He might take us down a path so much greater than what we could have imagined. Trust Him!
If you believe in the power of words and the power of visualization, I encourage you to change the focus from leaning on your strength to trusting God’s strength for your life. My journaling still contains the dreams I have for my life. However, I’ve given the power back to Christ, instead of believing I can do it on my own.
- “Thank you, God, I am healthy and happy with my body.”
- “Thank you, God, for guiding me to be a successful business owner.”
- “Thank you, God, for helping me achieve a debt-free life.”
